As the oldest of 15 children, I never lacked for playmates. My siblings and I grew up in a rural setting in a time of innocence, when trust and respect for others came much easier than in today's world.I became interested in deaf education after the birth of my deaf sister when I was in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education at Florida State Univerity and then went to the Univsity of No. Florida to obtain my Masters in Deaf Education. My teaching career began in 1974 at the Fla. School for the Deaf & Blind. I taught grades 1-5 covering all ability ranges. In 1990, I began my job as educational diagnostician which I enjoy immensely. I hold state certification in Elementary Education, Deaf Education, and Specific Learning Disabilities. I have taken classes in assessments and attended numerous workshops throughout the years that pertained to deaf education or assessment. I am the proud mom of 5 gifted children. They are all gainfully employed or in college. When asked about the "empty nest" syndrome, my husband and I look at each other and laugh. |
