With the economy in its current shape, many people are concerned about keeping their jobs. This includes the parents of teenage and college workers. Everyone needs money and employers are looking for ways to diminish their costs. No one could possibly be happy with the uncertainty that exists. Today's economy gives new meaning to job security. There are some simple ways to increase your changes on holding onto a job.
Employers are searching for ways to keep their businesses profitable. Decisions are made to consolidate the responsibilities of two workers into one position. Now is the time to shine as a team player. Flexibility is essential. You will need to accept change whether you like it or not. Because people are often known by the company they keep, try to avoid gossip mongering with the malcontents. Negativity breeds negativity. People who pitch in to do things without being told are valued. This should payoff when it is evaluation time or when downsizing is being considered. Businesses value people who are innovative thinkers and use materials/time wisely and efficiently. It always helps to have up-to-date technological skills and to be familiar with your company's goals and products. It helps to be a problem solver.
The Human Resource staff or boss should not know your name due to mediocre evaluations, job performance and attitude. Being a self-starter and productive member of the team who cares about the stability and growth of the company's bottom line are positive qualities. Taking care of yourself by eating properly and staying in shape help portray you as
a healthy person who will be on the job with fewer sick days than many others. With all of this said and done, this does not ensure your job security. If you are laid off, you want your name to be among the first management thinks of when hiring again. You also want to stand out among applicants for a new job elsewhere.
