Within the classroom, being prepared can make or break your lesson and perhaps, the whole day, Students are pretty perceptive and know when a teacher is flustered or just having a bad day. This is their signal that there is a chink in your armor. Even the best plans can go awry but an experienced teacher can often save the lesson. With the Internet at your disposal, a plethora of innovative lessons, projects and reinforcing worksheets can be found, downloaded and used to bolster learning of concepts.
In this world of technology, teachers must be up-to-date because you can be sure the students will be. Technology helps make resources easier to use and students can be directed to specific sites to gain information. Reports and presentations can be made very interesting by the imaginative use of various technologies. Gone are the days when a teacher can lecture and the students take notes or repeat what you said in unison. There are more opportunities for interaction and exchange of information among students and with the teacher. Some assignments can be completed and sent via email to the teacher. Students who do not feel comfortable asking questions in the classroom might use email to ask them. The teacher may build in review with examples to help the entire class or make arrangements for smaller group review.
Communication between the parents and teachers is easier with email and cell phones. Parents can check students grades online. Both parents and teachers can be proactive in kekeping students on task. It is important to remember parents vary in educational experiences when communicating with them. You need to establish a common interest in their child and never be condescending. Remember to praise the student's efforts and parental support. Always be prepared for the off-day every teacher has.
