You can make life easier for yourself and your ADHD child by doing some reasonably simple things around the house. You will need to limit auditory and visual distractions that cause excessive stimulation. This can be done by turning radios and TVs off when it's time for homework. Limiting the amount of time playing video games is also recommended. Children also need to have enough exercise to help keep them fit and to release pent up energy. For example, when your child gets off the bus in the afternoon, they are probably ready for a healthy snack. Letting them have some down time bikeriding or skateboarding helps transition them to sitting down to do homework.
Taking a look at your child's diet may also be helpful. Are they eating large quantities of refined sugars and foods? Watch what they eat to see if their activity level increases after eating a specific food as there may be an allergy. Your child may also have an interolerance for specific food additives. Keeping healthy snacks available will help keep their sugar levels even. Psychologists recommend that you should make sure to give your child 5-6 positive comments for each criticism. Certain cold and cough medications activate rather than sedate some children.
Is your child allergic to mold, mildew or dust? If so, their nervous system may be affected. When doing laundry, try to avoid scented products. If your home is sprayed with insecticides, your child might be reactive to the poisons. Those familiar with ADHD recommend you keep up with trends in the world of ADHD in order to better help your child.
