Water and Kids: A Natural Combo

Water play is so much fun for kids. A small inflatable wading pool will keep kids busy for a long time. They can pour water from container to container. Adding soap adds the allure of bubbles. You may choose to use a "no cry" baby shampoo to prevent burning eyes. Little ones can cool off in the heat of the day if they are well-protected with sunscreen. Infants can sit in the pool in an adult's lap and toddlers can sit independently and splash to their heart's content. Older children love running through the sprinklers and playing in the rain when there is no danger of lightning. Children should be supervised at all times.

For young children, being able to help wash the car is essentially child's play. Some water buckets, sponges and soap will take care of the bottom of your vehicle. Squirt guns can be used to shoot paper cups off a railing or overturned bucket. You can address gun safety. Not even a water gun should be pointed at people or animals. Water balloons are another popular form of entertainment when the weather is hot. Targets can be set up and points calculated. Children will need to be reminded to pick up the colorful pieces of broken balloons so that birds and other animals do not try to eat them. You can even make a slippery slide with an old shower curtain or plastic tarp. It is important to choose age appropriate water activities for your children.
