For the beginning trout fisherman, it is essential to have the right equipment and bait. For advice visit hunt and buy. Your rod should be lightweight and about five feet long. Your spinning reel should be loaded with heavy monofilament with a 30 foot lead of lighter line. Your rod and reel should be in tiptop working condition. You want the line to fly out and reel in smoothly. Avoid long shanked hooks and stick to bronze hooks in the #10 - #14 range. Your tackle box should be stocked with the appropriate tools. You should keep some small split-pea shot on hand for when you want the bait lower in the water. Include a small knife for cutting line when necessary.
